29th British Machine Vision Conference

The British Machine Vision Conference (BMVC) is the British Machine Vision Association (BMVA) annual conference on machine vision, image processing, and pattern recognition. It is one of the major international conferences on computer vision and related areas held in the UK. As its increasing popularity and quality, it has established as a prestigious event on the vision calendar.
There have been 28 successful BMVC since 1985. They were organized in many major universities in the UK, such as Cambridge (1987), Oxford (1990), Birmingham (1995), UEA (2003), Edinburgh (2006), Leeds (2008) and Imperial College London (2017). The scale of the conference has increased significantly in the past decade. In particular, the 2017 conference attracted 450 attendants and 635 full paper submissions, which was a record high. 188 high-quality research papers were accepted, in which around one-third of the works came from Europe, one-third from Asia and one-third from North America. Apart from international researchers, the conference also attracted a wide spectrum of international companies, which sponsored the conference and demonstrated their products in the conference.
This year, BMVC has a record high of 862 paper submission, comparing to 635 in BMVC 2017 and 365 in BMVC 2016. We have accepted 255 papers, which results in an acceptance rate of 29.5%. Apart from the largest number of papers accepted in BMVC history, we have sponsorships and demonstrations from international and national companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Nvidia and Apple. The three keynote speakers are Prof. Rama Chellappa from Maryland, Prof. Sven Dickinson from Toronto, and Prof. Shaogang Gong from Queen Mary. We also have four tutorials from Prof. Vittorio Ferrari, Dr. Ivan Laptev, Dr. Abhinav Gupta and Dr. Zeynep Akata.
